The group is involved in every step of value addition as they started out as farmers then proceeded to look for ways to get maximum benefit from what they produce.
Their products include: • Baobab and its products – baobab seeds, mabuyu and baobab flour, juice and jams • Tamarind – processed to make juice, jams • Greens (managu, mchicha, kunde..) and other African greens - crushed with machines then value added to make ganzia za kihindi especially with cowpeas • Porridge flour – made by mixing crashed greengrams with indigenous pumpkin/ sweet potato and finger millet to make a nutritious flour that can be eaten without adding any sugar as pumpkin/ sweet potato are natural sweeteners. Through this product, Asili foods has been contracted to supply the nutritious flour to a support group for children living with HIV. Future plans: • The group is looking into innovative ways of using the mango by going into the processing of mango leather. |
